LIBATION

Everyday na so I dey witness new tins wey dey suprise me about yankee people. Dis weekend I see with my korokoro eyes as one akata guy wey dey pray during one occassion wey I attend, begin do sometin wey I dey usually see old chief for my village dey do when him wan pray to de ancestors.

I attend sometin for hia wey dem dey call family reunion (I go explain dis one for anoda time). So for de occassion to start, dem need somebody to pray. Normally na pastor de pray for dis kind tin. But de guy wey pray na one old man. I notice say him carry cup for hand before him start. Den during de prayer him begin pour libation.

When de man come begin call on dia ancestors too protect dem, de tin kind of suprise me and den as him dey call dem, him come dey pour wetin dey for de cup for ground. Den I begin look around as everybody dey respond with amen.

Afta de prayer I come begin ask de person wey invite me wetin she know about de kind of prayer wey de old man dey pray? She come tell me say dem dey do am for special occassions. And den I come begin tell am say na exactly de way wey we dey do am for my village.

Na wa oo! One tin wey most of us wey come from Africa dey feel be say we and akata people no too get anytin in common. But if you put ya eye for ground and study some of dia life style, you go see say plenty tins dey common between us and dem. And dis libation tin wey I experiance really make me believe say we still get some kind of connection with blacks for yankee. With de centuries of separation wey dey between us, ee get some tins wey still connect us.

Culture na very strong tin oo! No mata de distance, people from de same race still get tins wey connect dem, and dis libation tin wey I see with my eyes na proof of dis fact!!
