Abeg oo my naija brodas and sistas for yankee, una fit tell me where I fit buy some tapioka for dis country. I don check walmart, krogers, brookshires for dis tin, and none of dem get am. I done waka up and down to find me some cassava flakes to chop, and nobody get am.
Lol..., but seriously I no know wetin just do me today, but from nowhere tapioka just enter my head. And when ee enter my head, ee take style shock me, like seriously!! Na dis tin wey oyibo dey call flashback. And make I tell you..., de flashback really take me go places..., I swear!!
Ahhh..., I remember when you fit go market and just buy dis tin plenty plenty. You fit chop am with coconut, palm kernel, groundnut or even native pear (de purple type, incase you no know!). Or sometimes you go see as small children go dey hawk am around ya area. And I dey notice say afta you chop dis tin, ya belle go full like say you don chop real three square meal.
And den de oda type wey dey dry, dem go soak am for wata, den come mix am with potash, palmoil, salt, pepper, meat, dry fish, okazi leave and oda comma and full stop tins wey go make de tin scatter ya brain as you dey chop am.
Na tins like dis wey dey make me still feel connection to my beloved naija. No mata how far you go or how long you stay outside naija, ee get tins wey go still make you miss de place. Awa food no get compare at all. De taste, de smell, de color of awa food just dey unique.
And wetin wey you go notice about we original foods be say everybody get equal access to am. Levels no dey inside. You dey for Aso rock or you dey for village, you fit still arrange de food with de same ingredients. No mind say everybody now don dey eat imported food. Awa own still dey affordable to everybody.
Sometimes I dey always wish say we wey dey hia fit find awa original food very easy. But dat one go hard to do sha. Na manage we go dey manage for hia!!
But if you know where I still fit find tapioka for hia..., abeg make you let me know ooo...!

DeleteThe correct native name wey we dey call am na “Abacha" or “Nsisa".....very sweet something. These days Dem no dey use potash again oh, as Dem don discover say potash na killer...Dem don replace that potash with wetin Dem dey call ‘nguu'(a liquid made from unripe plantain peels). Dem go dry the back of unripe plantain, then burn am to ashes, so na that Ash wey Dem dey use put for water.....so Dem don replace potash with am.
ReplyDeleteFunny tin be say nguu still contain wetin dey inside potash. Both potash n nguu contain the element wey Dem dey call potassium.
